Farming Guide
A stable farm is a loop: seed, water, observe soil, harvest, store, and only then scale. Version 1.0 made that loop easier to read but also changed several names and tools from older guides.
Build a field you can service
Begin with plots that fit one comfortable pass of your current Seed Shooter and watering setup. Wider fields look efficient, but they become downtime when seed capacity, water, storage, or harvest transport cannot keep up. Roads and clear turning space matter because the mech does the work at scale.
Version 1.0 adds Seed Stacking through a Seed Shooter upgrade and introduces the Seed Minigun later. Treat both as scale multipliers: first prove the crop has a destination and rotation plan, then increase the planted area.
Fertilizer and Mulch are different jobs
The 1.0 farming rework changed terminology. Items that changed the mound state are now Mulch. The new fertilizers are used for bonus yield and can be made from materials such as droppings or wood through the updated production chain. The Compost Box was replaced by the Fertilizer Infuser.
When following an older guide, translate the item’s function, not just its old name. If the goal is soil state, look for Mulch. If the goal is extra harvest, look for the current fertilizer.

Animals and eggs in version 1.0
The official launch notes say animals are easier to manage, eggs are easier to find, and unhappy farm animals no longer run away. If an animal does become lost, it can turn up in Diane’s sanctuary after a day. That recovery path is more reliable than repeatedly searching an old location guide.
Keep animal care close to storage for feed and by-products, but leave automation corridors around the enclosure. A farm that can accept new pipes and watering equipment will age better than one packed to the fence line.
Scale in this order
- Confirm a crop has a current recipe or sale purpose.
- Test its rotation behavior in a small plot.
- Ensure watering and harvesting finish in one manageable pass.
- Create labeled input and output storage.
- Add Automation Pipes and filters after the manual loop works.
- Expand only when the previous step is no longer the bottleneck.
Quick answers
What is the difference between fertilizer and Mulch?+
In version 1.0, Mulch changes mound or soil state; fertilizer provides bonus yield. Older guides may use the word fertilizer for both jobs.
Do unhappy farm animals run away?+
The official 1.0 notes say farm animals no longer run away when unhappy. Lost animals can appear in Diane’s sanctuary after a day.
When should I make a bigger farm?+
After one small loop can be seeded, watered, harvested, stored, and processed without a persistent bottleneck.
